While I would like to close this thread as "solved fixed", I'd just
like to remark that since GCC is arguably the most widely used
compiler in the wild, its dialect is getting more and more adopted by
other compilers. For instance icc needs a very specific flag to be
present in order not to pretend to be gcc (e.g. not to pre-define the
__GNUC__ macro etc.).
