external_acl question

After looking at the FAQ and examples for external_acls, I don't believe
this feature will work for what I need. Correct me if I am wrong, but
it doesn't look like I can define an external_acl in squid.conf and then
'call' that external_acl from redirect.cc. Is this correct? If so, I
am back to linking in a subset of the mysql libraries and headers.
