stack trace

I am trying to track down a problem that causes our squid machine to
crash about once an hour when using wccp. The process just seems to
dissapear without dumping core. Absolutely nothing in any of the logs,
would a higher debug level give more information? How should I go about
this? I dont think I could run it in gdb because it would be so
incredibly slow and probably not crash. Thanks
